Local Hike

On a sunny day just before Christmas, Corey had the afternoon off and he, and my brother and I headed off to one of the many large mountain preserves that are nestled in the city of Phoenix. It's about a 20 minute ride from the house to the start of the trail. For something completely different, we we went to Piestewa Peak.
Recently renamed after Arizona's first fallen female soldier in the Iraq war , who was also a citizen of the Navaho nation, this is a popular trail with many people. On that afternoon, there was a bus load of elementary school children, and Santa Claus in shorts, handing our foil covered candies, and tons of other people who were taking advantage of the nice weather, and perhaps getting in the exercise before the gorging of the holidays began.

I have posted pictures of the view from peak 2924, also in this preserve, but thought that since it has been some time since that post, that I could show the following photos of a rock outcropping as we hiked up, a view of the city under some haze and, the King of Castle on the actual peak of the hike.
