Mexico City-Day 3

On Tuesday, which was our last full day, we stayed in the city and had a look at many of the sites that we had visited on our last trip. One of the exceptions however, was the Templo Mayor, right next to the cathedral in the very center of town (remember what I mentioned in a recent post about churches on top of indigenous sites). When we were there two years ago, we looked over the gate at the ruins of the temple and decided that it wasn't a priority for us. I am very glad that our travelling companions wanted to enter the site and see it in greater detail. It is a marvel that it survived the centuries between its construction and now.


We spent the remainder of the day walking around, dodging the rain, entering cafes and ordering delicious quesadillas, tortas, pastries, cocoa and coffee. We finished the day at a local watering hole with dark draft beer and the most amazing tortas al pastor (sandwiches with a slow roasted and marinated pork- my mouth waters at the thought!)talking about our discoveries, while trying not to look at the football (soccer)on all of the tv screens.
