Vintage Accomodations

In Bisbee Arizona, we selected what I think is one of the most unique places that I have slept. The Shady Dell is essentially a trailer park, where clients can pay to spend the night in vintage camper trailers. We asked for and received the privilege of sleeping in the Tiki Bus. The bus is a 1954 vehicle that used to transport a California baseball team when it was new. It has been completely refurbished to house two beds, a bathroom, a gas stove and kitchen sink, a record player (complete with vintage Herb Alpert records) and melmac plates for the banquette filled dining area. My friends, the Tiki connaisseurs, proclaimed it marvelous. We had dinner in, and even sat at the outrigger bar located outside the doors.

The Shady Dell does a wonderful job restoring the trailers (we peeked into the yacht) and is a great place to stay for a blast from the past. The diner on the premises (open only for lunch and breakfast)also tries to recreate the past.
