Waikiki Beach

We just came back from spending the Labour Day weekend in Waikiki Hawaii. We had a credit from a flight we tried to take earlier this year, and decided to apply it to this trip. Since it was a direct flight, it was also really feasible to fly there and back for an extended weekend. This was Corey's second time in Waikiki this year (he went there earlier this year on an unbelievable deal- something like 190.00 for flight, hotel and car!!), but it was my first time.

It's a pretty busy place. The main street is full of the really big stores ( eg. Cartier) and the sidewalks are packed day and night with bag toting tourist. The beach is nice, but very narrow in spots. There are lots of surfers that jut park their cars on one of the many side streets and then take their board, and walk barefoot to the beach; this way they don't have to worry about anything but their car keys. There is every kind of food available, with a heavy emphasis on Asian food. The beach area is easy to walk around, but there is also a bus system that probably takes you everywhere.


Near the end of the beach, there is a city park which is called Diamond Head. It is an old volcano (yep, volcanos again) with paved walkways and stairs that take you past the crater, unto a promotory that gives you a great view of the hotels on the beach. We went nearly first thing in the morning. The next day, we walked around the park on city streets.



The weather was terrific. It was sunny, punctuated with a little rain to cool us off while on the beach, and to lend a little drame to night photos.
