Storms II

In the last post I showed you some of the cloudworks that happen around here in the summer time. Although I had predicted that we might have a storm, with rain, that evening, it seems that I do not have a future as a weather predictor. The clouds came, and the clouds went away; there was no rain, no thunder or lightening.

A day later, I took some shots of the clouds you see here. Again, really spectacular clouds, but with no substance. While the north western and south eastern part of the state of Arizona were pounded by rain and warned of flash floods, we had nothing.

Last night, finally, there was thunder and lightening. The latter was constant; I actually got out of bed and counted in between flashes. On average, there was lightening every two seconds. About an hour later, we even had thunder. I heard no rain, but since the air smelled like the desert after a rain, I knew that I had slept through the water show.

More clouds abound today. There are even some spectacular columns out in the south east, and the usual cluster of late afternoon cumulus in the north east. I think however, that since I am leaving tomorrow, and by the time I return monsoon will be nearly over, that I have missed all of the real storms of the season in Phoenix.
