Fire!

On my way back home on Friday, the pilot's voice managed to penetrate the super-duper-cut-out-the-noise headphones and the rockin' playlist that I was enjoying. I caught just enough of his message to look out the window. He was giving us notice about the fires in Nevada as we flew over them. This is not the best of photographs since:
1. the plane was moving (I asked nicely if we could stop and was told "NO"),
2. it was dark , and
3. it is a 3.2 megapixel camera (and the only thing on the list that I could do something about).
However, I did console myself with being, once again, on the right side of the plane at the right time and quick enough to reach down, grab my purse, open it up, grab the camera, wrestle it from its case, juggle the iPod and the drink (sparkling wine), and take the picture.
It was a phenomenal sight and a little eerie. The passenger beside me and I commented how odd it was to be so fascinated, and excited to see something which is so devastating on the ground. The first fire was nowhere near any habitation, but I won't lie to you about the second one; I'm sure that the fire fighters were doing their best to protect a very small community near the fire.
I hope that it is not too blurry on your computer screen.

Very funny, Colette.
I'm digging your detour into the world of disaster photography (storms, fires). Better upgrade your camera before you shoot the Vancouver 'Quake!
