August Plane View

Since it is summer, the weather while flying back and forth from Phoenix and Vancouver has been clear. I continue to have some success with being in the right place at the right time. Not to mention that I am getting really quick at pulling the camera out of the purse, out of its case and in time to catch the shot.
I took this one of the landscape over Oregon. The patterns of growth as they follow the geography, make for some amazing shots. I'm sure that this doesn't even merit a second look while on the ground, but from the air, they look like nothing that I can think of. When you get a collection of them, it is a bit surreal.

This is a very close up shot of Mount St. Helens. Those of you who lived in the Pacific Northwest in 1981 (I was away when it blew, so I have little point of reference except that I know that I was on a trip- if I could only remember which one!!), will remember when this volcano blew and spewed ashes everywhere. The devastation was incredible and my parents recall the darkness and ashes as they fell as far north as Summerland, in the Okanagan Valley. Over twenty years later, the vegetation is making a comeback and the area has recovered; on occasion, most recently last fall, volcanologists and other waited for another eruption that never came. The mountain itself looks a bit lopsided from the ground, but it is stunning from the top.

I am looking forward to seeing some of these views as we head out on our trip in September. Excellent shots!
Wow! Great shots. Mount St. Helen's is quite impressive from that angle! My first glance at the top pic had me thinking it was some kind of modern art with splashes of blue and grey. Very cool. Do you really have a "collection" of the landscape pics?
Yes I have a few shots- it was really too weird. We were flying at just the right altitude to be able to make out the gullies or ridges. You could do as one does with clouds, and try and make out shapes.
