New Apartment!

After waiting for about three to four weeks, we finally have the keys to the apartment. We started moving in last Friday and spent our first night there on Saturday. The boxes with our stuff from home arrived on Friday and we have started to unpack. There are still things in the box as we run around to stores to buy hangers for the clothing, adapters for the electric appliances, placemats to protect the table, and other things to make it a functional home; there might even be things to be purchased to make it a lovely looking home.

For the next year, we will be living in this complex not far from the hotel we were in for the last 5 weeks or so. It is comprised of three highrises (of varying size-ours is the middle one), and one lowrise building. There is a gate with guards and each building has its set of security guys. There is also a club house; on the top floor is a restaurant (sandwich, salads and pizza), and in the basement is the pool, a playroom for kids, a gym, a wine store, a reading room, dry cleaner and a beauty salon. Pretty complete.

Our apartment has three bedrooms, one kitchen, two bathrooms, a large living and dining room, and two balconies. We also have an additional room and bathroom that is usually reserved for the live in maid- it can be reached through the kitchen and is off to the side of the back balcony, where we have our washing machine (more about washing on another post). One half of the landlord pair is an artist, and has graciously agreed to leave 6 of his canvases. The rest of the apartment is furnished with a mix of antique and contemporary pieces ( I have a future post for this too). The floors are wood, the ceilings are high and the bathrooms are large. Most importantly, although we are close to a couple of busy intersections, our apartment is on the back side of the building and overlooks an abandoned prospective building site which is gracefully hidden by the plane trees, and the quietest street around. I'll do a post about the neighborhood at some later date. We have a large flat screen television, and we are equipped with a functioning satellite dish. It allows us to watch and listen to BBC, among many other things.

We have room for visitors as you can see- C. tells me that there is a really good deal for flights from Vancouver on Air Canada from October to February- so you might want to consider coming to see for yourself. I have included photos of the dining rom, kitchen, living room and two spare rooms- the master bedroom does not photograph well.
