UFO- ##??

I can't even remember the last time I posted about an unfinished object- so maybe I shoudl just start again or go and have a look at the archives later. In any case, this one is a doozy. This is a quilt, completed to the flimsy stage, that was started about 7 or 8 years ago. I participated in a "mystery quilt" event that was sponsored by Fabricland. On the first week, the participants chose fabrics according to the instructions, but without ever knowing what the ultimate design would be. Let me tell you that, as challenging as it is to choose appropriate fabric for a quilt where you choose the pattern first, it is doubly hard when you do it blindly. I don't think that I did that well. To add to the challenge, I mixed up the instructions at some point and had to recruit people to help me unpick some of the blocks ( any chance that you remember that Norma?). This added to the delay of getting this completed. Luckily, I persevered and the flimsy lay there without borders until my sister in law gave me a gift certificate for an Abbotsford quilting shop. I used the certificate to buy the border fabric and then spent some considerable time, trying to decide how to lay it out - no simple contrasting inner border, outer border for me.

Below is the result. I love the deep purple and I think that it helps to pull it all together (thanks Norma for the green and purple tip- I don't know if it is exactly what you thought it might be, but this is how I saw it). I have sewn the backing together and am taking it with me to Vancouver, where I hope to persuade a certain someone to fit me into her quilting schedule. I'll post the finished product too. Right now, the silly thing has no name- and so I am open to suggestions.

Other person in the house is away on a business trip for the next while (more about that in the next post), and so there is a flurry of sewing activity going on here at the house. I'm also working on a couple of other flimsies (one or two that are UFO's, and a couple of new ones), so there might be more postings about those in the very near future. Stay tuned.
