This is big blocks of ice on the back of his bike. I thought at first that it was huge blocks of lard! But then I used my super honed detective skills and noted the trail of water from the blocks to the pavement, and deduced: ice. However, I'm not skilled enough to know what he was going to do with those large dirty blocks of ice- hopefully they were not destined for consumption!
