UFO #14
Ok this is the last UFO for the year. Not a bad count overall- at least one per mont, but I have to admit that I had some help on the last three.
This was a mystery quilt that I started through some free instructions at Fabricland somewhere arond 1997. The instructions were to get three fabrics that would go together. They also gave instructions for the value of the fabric. I bought the fabric with the intention to make this quilt for my mom and happily went in on a monthly basis to get the instructions. I realized in about month 5 or 6 that I had made a grave mistake somewhere around month 3. I was kind of frustrated and mentioned to Norma (my co-worker at the time) that I had messed up and was giving up. She urged me to bring to work and she and another co-worker (Sylvia) helped me pick out the seams for days. I went home after that and re-sewed everything together, but banished the flimsy to the Rubbermaid bucket since I did not like the finished product. About 3 or 4 months ago, I found it again, showed it to Norma and asked her how I could make it better. She suggested a dark purple and a funky green. I went out and followed instructions to the letter. I then thought long and hard about the borders and ended up incorporating some of the blocks that were left over from the original project (there is LOTS of fabric left over- and this quilt is quite big as it is). I brought it to Vancouver and then to Norma for quilting. She did an amazing job once again and I think I now have most if not all of the finished flimsies in my Rubbermaid tubs completed to quilting stage. And just in time for the end of the year.
I will start from scratch next year, but given that I have taken only a few projects to start with me to Shanghai , and even less UFO projects, I don't expect the count to be that high next year.
p.s. that is my sister in law in her quilting holding up career- she did quite well, but I think that she should keep her day job!
