U.F.O. #12
I have been terribly remiss in putting new posts on the blog- no excuse except that for the longest time, there just wasn't much to write about. So I will use this post and the next as a giant icebreaker. It will crack the ice of three months and allow the posts to flow freely from here on end.
Thanks to my good friend Norma, I have been able to complete this quilt finally. I started this one based from a pattern in a magazine that I borrowed at the Renton public library (and what a good library that was- Seattle has one of the highest literacy rates in the U.S.A.) in the fall of 2000. I had in mind to do something very striking, so I bought some black fabric and paired it with a pile of batik fabrics that I bought ( and these may have even been fat squares- I don't remember) and were in my stash. I modified the pattern. I really liked the pattern concept but did not have enough batik to do the whole thing. I have no recall the name of the pattern, or how I modified it, and therefore this quilt has no name (any suggestions?). I had little scraps of the batik left over, so I sewed them together and created a border for the edge of the quilt. I finished the flimsy and then put it away.
While I was sorting through some boxes of fabrics earlier this year, and in preparation for the trip to Shanghai, I decided to find backing and bring it to Vancouver so that I could try and squeeze into Norma's schedule. I found this great, dark pansy patterned fabric that seemed to match the blue batik strip on the front, and in the end there was enough to bind the whole quilt with it. Norma applied to baptist fan pattern and the whole thing looks fabulous. Although it will likely spend the next few months in a box, it is done finally and will be a perfect adornment for the black leather couch in the living room at the house in Phoenix. And one more UFO completed this year.

Here's to many more posts -- with not so much time between. :)
This quilt is lovely and I agree that it will showcase well draped over a black leather couch!
Norma sent me over, Colette--asking if I recognized any of your quilts. And I do from her blog or from private conversations online---lovely. I know she has enjoyed quilting your quilts for you and the quality of your work has made it a bit easier than some she has done in recent months.
I believe this is called Delectable Mountain. How striking the black is with the batiks!
I LOVE the backing, it's going to look so good on the sofa!
Makes me want to go fabric shopping.
