Physical Assessment

Yesterday, we had our physical examination as part of the process for obtaining our resident visa for the year. We were collected by a representative for the company from our hotel and then proceeded to a medical clinic. This clinic is only open to appointments from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and really only caters to foreigners needing visas or other government requirements. We handed over a form with a couple of passport photos and then went to a change room where we shed some of our clothing and donned bathrobe like gowns. We were weighed, measured, then had chest x-rays and gave a blood sample. The phlebotomist was one of the gentlest that I have been to (no bruising); the only person who has been gentler, in my experience, was the young man who formerly collected samples from reluctant inmates in the California penal system!
We also had an ultrasound, an EKG, had our ears and eyes examined, and lastly had our blood pressure tested. This was the most efficient system that I have ever seen, and the two of us were finished in about 30 minutes. We will be receiving our results in about one week.

What can you tell about a person from a physical examination? I know that this country, like any other, should check any incoming residents for communicable diseases to protect its citizens, but what will my heart rate, or blood pressure, height or weight tell about my value as a temporary resident? Would it not be better to do a psychological assessment along with the blood test?? What will they do with all of that data??

I learnt something new about myself yesterday. It turns out that I have a deviated septum in my left nostril ( i was reading over the shoulder of one of the technicians as he was entering the data). I'm not sure if this will affect my chances of getting the visa, but he made the notation anyways.
