Oh Canada!

Happy Canada Day! I am in Canada (more specifically Abbotsford/Vancouver) for the next couple of weeks to do some work. It is with pleasure that I am here on the beautiful and sunny day that is the national holiday. In order to celebrate, I made my way down to Granville Island to hear some jazz music as part of the annual jazz festival, and to shop for some great fresh food to use later this week.

Unfortunately, the usually busy Granville Island, was even busier today. It took a long time to stream onto the island just to find out that there was no parking there. Lineups to restaurants were long. Since we were okay with eating inside, we were seated immediately. The virgin extra spicy ceasars were delicious, but the food is not worthy of mention. The biggest disappointment, was the sheer size of the crowds which prevented me from doing any kind of shopping for the great food (the line up for the bagels, went around the corner from the counter- at least a dozen people). I did manage to salvage the experience by buying a container of lemon stuffed olives (untried as of this moment) and two types of teas, which I will use for the tea of the month posts. Thankfully, the ride home was a fast ride with the windows down and the radio on very loud. Perfect for a summer day.

Since I am outside of the GFW of China, I will be posting a bit more regularly and trying to postdate some other posts, so that when I return to Shanghai, there should still be some material to read from time to time. And then I will hope for an end to the censorship.
