A few weeks ago, when at a dinner party hosted by a friend, we were introduced to another couple. They have come to China with their two children and have been here for about a year. He is teaching a creative writing course at Fudan University and they live in a lane house not too far from our apartment.

It turns out that he is a American mystery writer of some repute. Both Ridley and Marcelle take turns writing about their experience here, and so I offer to you another side to living in Shanghai according to one of our neighbors.
