Northern Beer
In an attempt to continue to catalogue the beers of China, here is my entry for the Datong area. I thought that because this is in the more northernly part of China (we were about 6 miles away from the border of outer Mongolia), that the beer might be a bit heartier. It wasn't. It tasted and looked like many of the other beer we have had so far. It was light colored, and light tasting, and low in alcohol. Still refreshing and appropriate for lunch, but not much else.
Oh and I thought that you might be interested in an item we saw on the menu in a small restaurant in Datong, that we just could not resist. Behold the "nappy fried sweet potatoes". They were sweet potatoe fries, deep fried, coated in super fine sugar and sprinkles. We did not have this with the beer.
