Ride the Wall

On a return trip to Xi'an, we (myself JH and his mother ACH) found ourselves (due to some excellent planning) with enough time to go to the city wall and ride the perimeter. We arrived shortly after the wall opened for the visitors for the day. We quickly scouted for the bike rentals and for a small sum of five dollars, and a deposit, we had our trusty metal steeds for about an hour and a half.

There is really not much to the ride. By and large the wall is fairly flat; we found a little incline to begin but it was really manageable. There was no traffic of any kind- strangely other cyclists and pedestrians were absent. Some of the sections of the wall are a little bumpy due to lot of potholes, but it was really an easy ride.

With a lot of stops for photos and one for a refreshing drink, it took us just under the alloted time to do the entire fourteen kilometers. Despite the fact that we had no bells on the bikes, I think that we still had a good time.

I include for you here a few shots of the city from the wall, and a shot of at least one of the intrepid cycling party.
