Candies

I haven't posted anything about Chinese sweets in a long time. Possibly because the last batch was so peculiar, it put me off for awhile. It could also be due to the fact that I have noticed that some Chinese things are not always as you expect them to be. Take for instance:

1. the candy- not sweet (the Kitkat bars they sell here are even less sweet than in America),
2. Potato chips- not salty. One of the popular flavors here is mango flavored chips. Other flavors like beef or cucumber, tend to be sweet, and
3. Orange juice- when served for breakfast at Chinese breakfast buffets- hot- yep... all the milks (skim, full and soya) and the orange juice can be served hot. In restaurants where a good portion of the clientele is from away, the juice is cold or room temperature.

Despite all this, I still have a sweet tooth and so I continue my search for something sweet. I have found these two products in the local grocery store. They are both soft ginger candies; the ones in the green box are mint flavored, and the others have peanuts with the ginger. They have a nice ginger bite as well as just the right amount of sugar, and very chewy. I just turned over the box and noticed that they are made in Indonesia- this might explain the reason that they are sweet- they are not from here.

The back of the box also says: "Sin A brand peanut butter ginger chew is suitable for the whole family at any time." Glad to hear that I can eat them for breakfast if I want to- I have their stamp of approval.
