Seasonal fruit

Hey look.... it's nectarine season!! It seems a bit early to me, but I guess, somewhere south of here, the fruit are ready for harvest. Note that a chinese character appears on their skin. I've seen this on apples as well. I am told that some sort of stencil is applied to each fruit while they are still on the tree, and the sun, or lack of it, is what makes this design. I noted that all three of these nectarines had different characters, but I don't know what they mean ( I think that one of them is the same one that is found on the doors of the newly wed- in which case it means double happiness).

I wonder if I paid more for these than the un-stenciled ones?
