Chicago-Part II - FOOD continued

Stil in the same lovely guide book, we found a reference to Margie's. A Chicago institution since 1920, Margie's is a genuine ice cream parlor. They make their own chocolate fudge sauce, which they sell by the jar as well as their own candies. The place consisted of brown vinyl booths and a counter with table jukeboxes (songs were from the late 70's and early eighties- could have listened to YMCA or BeeGee's songs if we'd wanted to). While the place was pretty funky, the ice cream and sauce (generously served in a small gravy boat on the side) were the important part of the experience, and clearly the reason why people have been coming (and apparently lining up outside) for years.



Other notable mentions were Lou Mitchell for breakfast and La Brasserie Jo for ambience and food. We figured, that if we were really diligent, we might be able to eat our way around Chicago in about a year.
